As part of a University project, I adapted Shakespeare's Othello for the Screen. I decided to re-contextualise the play and set it in 1960s America during the Civil Rights movement. For this project, I created a piece of concept art, 3D interior renders and both interior/exterior technical drawings.
MOODBOARD
A selection of period references gathered from books and online.
Concept Art
For my concept art, I decided to hand paint a vintage postcard using gouache. I then scanned it in and added type and texture within Photoshop.
SIGNAGE
I designed a series of signs to dress in around the exterior of my set, including a large sign with neon lights and a 'Welcome to Arizona' hand painted billboard.
3D Renders
I modelled, textured and lit the interior set in Blender. I created an array of Mid Century Modern dressing, trying to strike a balance between style and context for Desdemona's bedroom. As well as a 3D Render of the Motel sign I designed to illustrate how it would look in day time scenes and then lit up at night.
Technical Drawings
A selection of interior and exterior technical drawings created in SketchUp and Layout. The exterior location is an adaptation of the abandoned Anasazi Inn in Gray Mountain, AZ, United States.
White Card Model
A simple White Card Model Mockup of the exterior location to establish whether I surveyed measurements correctly.
